7 Grooming Resolutions for 2017

by Zack Evar |

There are only a few days left of the year, and if you are like most of us you are ready to leave behind 2016 for the hopeful promises of what’s to come in the next year. Many of us take this time to reevaluate ourselves and our lives and compile a list of resolutions or promises about how we will improve in the next year. Below I have 7 grooming resolutions for 2017 that will keep you looking and feeling your best in 2017. Most of these are pretty small changes and are real, attainable goals that you can set for yourself. Happy New Year everyone!

Wash your face the right way

If you aren’t already doing it, then you need to start cleaning your face of dirt and pollutants once or twice a day. Invest in a foaming face wash, one of the best facial cleansers for men, and avoid using bar soaps on your face. Bar soaps will strip away natural oils and cause flakiness. Wet your face with running water to create a rich lather and use clean fingers to apply the face wash, instead of a face towel and washcloth, which tends to harbor acne causing bacteria.

Moisturize and hydrate regularly

Drink water at least 8 times a day to keep your skin, and your body healthy and fresh. Apply a daily face moisturizer to your face and neck with clean fingers using a circular motion. Make sure you use one that includes charcoal for men's skin. A good quality lotion will leave your skin supple, smooth, and healthy.

Wear clothes that fit you properly

With the New Year on the horizon, most of us have vowed to hit the gym and start working out. The worst thing you can do for your newly sculpted body is to dress it in clothes that do not show off the best features of your body. Pants should graze the top of your shoes and shirts should hug your shoulders while also providing mobility. The trick to having clothes in your closet that truly fit you is to find and develop a relationship with a good tailor who can adjust the clothes you buy to fit the exact needs of your body.

There are pants out there that are not made of denim

It might be hard to believe, but there are other pant options for men than the standard jeans. Jeans are and will probably always be our go to. This year you should step out of your comfort zone and invest in a pair of casual khakis or chinos. These options are a great way to incorporate some of the year’s hottest colors, like olive and burgundy.

Never forget your sunscreen

Even when it’s cold and gray outside, UVA and UVB sun rays still come in contact with your skin. This happens even if the sun isn’t shining, per say. The SPF in sunscreen is the top way to delay aging and to battle wrinkles and skin cancer, so make sunscreen application a part of your daily skincare routine.

Maintain your facial hair

The trending beards, mustaches, and chinstraps of this year are not going to go anywhere for 2017, keep your facial hair neat and clean throughout the upcoming year. For the ultimate shave, trim or shave any stray hairs once or twice a week, using a clean, sharp razor and a creamy shaving cream (Don't forget the shaving brush!). Always shave with the grain for a smooth and ingrown free finish. It’s also important to invest in a cedarwood beard conditioner if you have a long beard or cool mustache style, to keep your facial hair clean and smelling fresh throughout the year. Don’t forget to floss

Every time I make a trip to the dentist she sends me home with some floss samples with some extra reminders to floss on a daily basis. And usually, once those samples run out, I never go to the store to buy my own floss, which pretty much means I don’t really heed my dentist’s advice. This is a huge mistake, since flossing your teeth is really the only way to get rid of the plaque and food stuck between your teeth that your toothbrush cannot reach. Flossing every day (yes, EVERY DAY) will help to freshen breath and prevent gum disease.
