Tips for taking care of your eyebrows

by Zack Evar |

Eyebrows are probably something you don’t think about often but with a little grooming, they can really improve your look. If the eyes are the windows to the soul think of your eyebrows as the frames. So, here are a few men's skin care tips for taking care of your eyebrows.

Before we even start, we’re talking about grooming, not shaping. You shouldn’t have to go through a lot of torture to look neat. So if you’re picturing the chest-waxing scene from 40-Year-Old Virgin but on your face, take a breath, this will be fairly painless. If you are interested in shaving and grooming, be sure to check out our shaving cream and shaving brush for the ultimate shave.

Man's eyebrows

The first thing you need is an eyebrow comb to smooth those guys out. A small regular hair comb might even work. Sometimes all unruly eyebrows need is a little combing. If you’re not sure how to comb them, just think up and out. You want the hairs to go in the direction they naturally grow while neatening them up a bit.

What about those feisty hairs that refuse to hang with the crowd and insist on doing their own thing? You’ve got a few options.

First, you could try some eyebrow wax, whether it’s a pomade, a wax made just for eyebrows or some of that petroleum jelly hanging out in your medicine cabinet. You can even try hair gel. Just a little bit should get those hairs to stay in place. You can apply it with an eyebrow comb or with your fingers.

If your brows are on the bushy side and combing and using wax aren’t working for you, you might want to give them a little trim. Just make sure you use scissors made for personal grooming and take care not to nick yourself.

Now, let’s say your eyebrows sort of meet over your nose and you aren’t comfortable rocking a unibrow; it can fix that. Just take your razor and gently shave it off like you shave off sideburns and you’re good to go. Use some shaving cream if you aren't comfortable shaving dry.

If you find that you only have a few stray hairs in between your eyebrows and really don’t feel like taking a razor to your face (at least not anywhere near your eyes), tweezing is your best option. For only a few hairs it won’t be that bad if you do it the right way.

What’s the right way? The easiest and most painless way to tweeze is after a shower or after you’ve washed your face with warm water and your pores are opened up. If you want to keep your face smooth and elegant be sure to also check out our the best facial cleanser for men and face moisturizer as well as our other premium grooming products.

That way the hairs are easier to grab and come out much easier than if you try to yank them out of closed pores. Afterward, splash some cold water on your face to close up the pores to sooth them and prevent acne.

Tweezing is also a great option for those random outlier hairs that are too far from the rest to be swept into place with some combing and product.

Proper grooming goes a long way, especially in the business world; your competency is based on your appearance and you do not get any do-overs. If you have a long beard, be sure to check out our beard conditioner and mustache styles.
