How to Deal with Sunburned Skin

Summer is finally here, and with it, everything I love in life…. the beach, the sun, ice cream, outdoor sports…I simply love this season and everything that comes with it. The one thing I don’t like however is sunburned skin! There is nothing worse than the feeling of red, hot, painful skin, and don’t even get me started on the peeling situation. Here are a few tips for taking care of sunburns:

Cool it down

For immediate sunburn relief, you can place a cool compress on your skin. Wet a clean gauze and gently place it on your skin. For added relief, you can place it in the fridge for 15 minutes before use.

Take a cool shower to relieve the pain. Use a gentle soap to clean your pores from any sunscreen you used, and for added relief, you can use some oatmeal bath to soothe your skin.

Go natural

Hydrate: Drink lots of water. Your sunburned skin is dry and dehydrated, and replenishing fluids will help your skin heal from sunburn more quickly.

Going for that natural solution? My grandmother used to recommend applying milk or yogurt to your skin. This can give you a rejuvenating cool feeling. Grandma knows best!

Surprisingly, taking vitamin E supplements can drastically decrease inflammation caused by sunburn. You can also use oils that contain vitamin E.

Cucumbers have natural antioxidant and analgesic properties. Chill cucumbers, then mash in a blender to create a paste and apply to affected sunburned areas including the face. Cucumber can also be soothing for peeling skin following a sunburn.

Try some lotion

Use lotions or gels that contain aloe vera, or you can use our Gentlemen's Moisturizer which contains argan oil, also known as liquid gold, which minimizes flaking of the skin. A facial moisturizer, or other premium grooming products, can really help your sunburned face.

Use body lotions such as our Hand Repair Lotion to introduce moisture back into your aching skin. Our Hand Repair Lotion conditions the skin as well as maintains a healthy moisture level without the greasy after effect. Activated charcoal absorbs toxins, purifying your skin. Shea butter, glycerin, and avocado oil work together to add just the right amount of moisture. You can use this lotion all over your sunburned body. Beard oil can be a great solution. While your beard most likely provided some protection to the skin underneath, depending on how thick it is, you may be sunburned under your beard. This can lead to ugly flakes on your beard as your skin starts peeling off. Use our Beard Oil Conditioner which softens and cleanses beard hair and the skin beneath it, while also leaving behind a mild woodsy aroma. Using organic argan and jojoba oils, as well as cedarwood essential oil and vitamin E, this elixir cleanses as it moisturizes. A must for dry, itchy beards and the skin beneath.
