As many guys with sensitive skin know, shaving with sensitive skin can be an irritating ordeal. For many years, the thought of shaving freaked me out. I still shaved from time to time, but every time my face would get red, itchy, and painful. I tried to avoid it as much as possible! Luckily, beards are in…
There is no magic pill for shaving with sensitive skin. Using these tried and tested tips, you can win some of the battle!
The smoother your skin, the fewer chances your razor will cut the skin beneath. Before shaving, wash your face with a gentle exfoliating scrub such as our Gentlemen’s Scrub which features crushed walnut shells to slough off dulling surface cells and reveals a fresh, radiant, and smooth complexion. Regular exfoliation helps revitalize skin and diminish the signs of aging. Infusion of caffeine, lavender, menthol, and peppermint oils give your skin a rejuvenated feeling.
Massaging beard oil into your beard can really help, but instead of using your fingers (which may cause irritation), use a badger brush. The fine hair of our Gentlemen’s Brush does a great job coating your hair, and won’t cause irritation like fingernails can. Be sure to check out a few of our other premium grooming products.
Always, always use shaving cream! The Gentlemen’s Shaving Cream offers a whipped lather for a great shave. Argan and Sandalwood oils help to condition your beard, minimizing irritation and redness of your skin. Rich in glycerin and an array of plant extracts, our shaving cream leaves your face smooth and moisturized. Using soap can lead to dryness, which will only make your skin feel itchier.
Remember when your dad told you to shave with the grain? That is especially true if you have sensitive skin. You should NOT shave against the grain. Always follow the direction of your hair growth, and don’t exert pressure against your skin. Use a fresh, sharp razor, and let the blade do the work with minimal downward force against your skin. We recommend using a straight razor or a double edge safety razor. These kinds of razors employ new, sharp blades – and unlike the multi blade cartridges, they don’t clog up or rust. Here are a few tips for shaving with a straight razor.
Assuming you’re good about rinsing your blade while you shave, gunk from skin flakes, hair, and shaving cream can still build up over time. Since bathrooms are damp and notorious breeding grounds for mold, mildew can start growing on your razor blade, too. If you must use a cartridge style razor with multiple blades, make sure to keep it clean between uses. Using a rusty, dirty blade can be hazardous to your health, and lead to extra irritation. Learn when is it time to replace your razor! As always, we recommend a double edge safety razor with a fresh blade for each shave. Not only is the shave smoother and less irritating, this method is cheaper as well. Know how to take care of your razor!
A major cause of shaving-related rash is dry skin. Maintaining your skin’s moisture content with a daily lotion will help. The Gentlemen’s Moisturizer is a lightweight facial moisturizer that works naturally with your skin to promote softness and encourage hydration for a natural look. Infused with Argan oil, a noncomedogenic (or non-clogging) natural moisturizer, a facial moisturizer is perfect for everyone’s skin. Activated charcoal draws out and absorbs toxins from your pores while caffeine gives your skin an energized look and feel. Made from natural oils and plant extracts, this formula will tone and strengthen your skin. The Gentlemen’s Moisturizer will also protect your skin from UV rays.
