Hot Water or Hot Compress

Running hot water directly on the cut or even applying a hot cloth or compress may stop bleeding by helping to cauterize the wound.

Cold Water

Splashing your face with cold water or even placing an ice cube on a deeper cut will constrict blood vessels and slow down the bleeding.

Apply Vaseline

Vaseline or even lip balm on a wound will help to seal the skin over the cut. This will force the blood to clot over, inevitably stopping the bleeding. Don’t forget to use a cotton swab to apply the lip balm to your cut. This will keep everything clean, and enable you to use your lip balm again.

Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel is an anti-inflammatory compound that comes from the Witch Hazel bush. It’s is often turned into an astringent that is sold in local and natural drug stores, and is making its way into everyday medicine cabinets. Witch Hazel is an astringent that will constrict blood vessels to help stop or slow down bleeding. Apply it to your face after shaving can also help to prevent razor burn.

Sugar

Everyone has sugar at the house, so this may be a convenient alternative. Apply a tiny amount of sugar directly onto your cut. This will help stop the bleeding and, more importantly, will disinfect the cut and help to get rid of any unwanted bacteria. Salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper also have the same healing properties, but applying these to a cut will cause a little sting.

Eye Drops

Placing a few drops onto your nick or cut will help to slow down the bleeding by constricting blood vessels.

Mouthwash

Before it was used to fight bad breath, mouthwash was once used as a surgical antiseptic. When applied to a wound, mouthwash causes your tissues to contract, stopping the bleeding almost immediately.

Deodorant

Check the label on your deodorant or antiperspirant. If the list of ingredients has aluminum chloride in it then you can apply it to your cut. Again using a cotton swab to keep everything sanitary. The aluminum chloride in the deodorant will constrict the blood vessels and help stop the bleeding.

Of course, the best way to deal with shaving nicks and cuts is to take steps to prevent them from happening altogether. Some of these steps include always taking the time to wet shave with a smooth and creamy shaving cream that will help your razor glide onto your skin smoothly. Also, don’t forget to replace your razor on a regular basis and to use facial moisturizer before and after each shave.
